It seems that I have been sketching or painting all of my life and over the years I have tried many types of different mediums and styles. But it's since I retired from a long Interior Design career that I have truly found my love for the quiet and solitude that painting gives me. Now I have the time to create paintings which allow me to have the pleasure of design, form, style and imagination
Sometimes I find I learn lots by copying or painting with the style of other artists. From their works I learn about shading, color variations, mixing and of course composition. The artists who have most inspired me are Georgia O'Keefe for her large flowers and Pueblo houses, and the Russian artists Andre Kohn and Andrew Atroshenko for their phenomenal impressionistic paintings of women.
Alongside my art my passion for photography is something that has developed over the years too. I very much enjoy photographing flowers, especially close up to the center or inner beauty of the bloom and from these I get subject material for my paintings. From this hobby comes the creative process of knowing that the composition and photos used in my art are my own. After I was recently given the gift of a more High-Tec camera with a more powerful zoom lens attachment, I find that architecture now has a huge photographic draw for me too and I can't resist snapping away at the most interesting architectural elements I see.
